چکیده

We prove that for an undirected graph with arboricity at most k+ǫ, its edges can be decomposed into k forests and a subgraph with maximum degree ⌈ 1−ǫ ⌉. The problem is solved by a linear programming based approach: we first prove that there exists a fractional solution to the problem, and then use a result on the degree bounded matroid problem by Király, Lau and Singh [5] to get an integral solution.

Covering planar graphs with forests

We study the problem of covering graphs with trees and a graph of bounded maximum degree. By a classical theorem of Nash-Williams, every planar graph can be covered by three trees. We show that every planar graph can be covered by two trees and a forest, and the maximum degree of the forest is at most 8. Stronger results are obtained for some special classes of planar graphs.

k-forested choosability of graphs with bounded maximum average degree

A proper vertex coloring of a simple graph is $k$-forested if the graph induced by the vertices of any two color classes is a forest with maximum degree less than $k$. A graph is $k$-forested $q$-choosable if for a given list of $q$ colors associated with each vertex $v$, there exists a $k$-forested coloring of $G$ such that each vertex receives a color from its own list. In this paper, we prov...

Covering a graph with a constrained forest

Given an undirected graph on n vertices with weights on its edges, Min WCF(p) consists of computing a covering forest of minimum weight such that each of its tree components contains at least p vertices. It has been proved that Min WCF(p) is NP -hard for any p ≥ 4 (Imielinska et al., 1993) but (2 − 1 n )-approximable (Goemans and Williamson, 1995). While Min WCF(2) is polynomial-time solvable, ...

Online Weighted Degree-Bounded Steiner Networks via Novel Online Mixed Packing/Covering

We design the first online algorithm with poly-logarithmic competitive ratio for the edge-weighted degree-bounded Steiner forest (EW-DB-SF) problem and its generalized variant. We obtain our result by demonstrating a new generic approach for solving mixed packing/covering integer programs in the online paradigm. In EW-DB-SF, we are given an edge-weighted graph with a degree bound for every vert...
